Leading Public Interest Orgs, Editorial Boards Line Up in Opposition to Ballot Initiative 2124

Washington State – The No on Initiative 2124 campaign has picked up the endorsements of more than 150 organizations, together representing more than 3 million Washingtonians, as well as the support of influential editorial boards from Everett to the Tri-Cities.

I-2124 is now opposed by every major organization that advocates for patients, retirees, seniors and disabled people, women and working families including the Washington State Nurses Association, AARP, the League of Women Voters, MomsRising, the National MS Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, ALS Association, Caring Across Generations, Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates and many others.

Libby Watson, campaign manager for No on I-2124, commented: “Washington voters know a wolf in sheep's clothing when they see it. It’s telling that those who oppose this initiative are the very people who best understand long term care and its challenges: professional and family caregivers, doctors, nurses and advocates for patients and people with debilitating diseases. On the other side, the only people who stand to benefit from this initiative are the very wealthy and insurance companies.”

Opposition to I-2124 cuts across geography and partisanship. The editorial boards of the Everett Herald in Snohomish County and Tri-City Herald, in one of the most conservative corners of Washington, have weighed in urging a No vote on I-2124.

The campaign’s second ad launching this week focuses on how I-2124 is especially harmful to millions of Washingtonians with pre-existing conditions who are often rejected for private long term care insurance, even if they can afford its exorbitant premiums.

In No on I-2124’s first ad, Washingtonians share how the initiative will hurt women.
